Cleon Peterson “Blood and Soil”
by GWOP

OTI gallery (Los Angeles, CA)
Extraordinary body of work by Los Angeles based artist Cleon Peterson.
With a strong interest in human conflict throughout history, Cleon’s new body of work reconciled violent history in comparison with present-day violence. Usually depicted through flat, collage-like compositions in which characters of different colors are engaging in physical, blood-thirsty clash, the newest works are somewhat switching focus to what precedes or follows such events. The new nightmarish images are portraying everything from a gun-loving society, to explicit high society debauchery starring familiar figures such as Donald Trump himself. Along with those, the new black, red and white paintings are bringing up some of the topics of modern US society, such as politics, police brutality or confederate monuments issue.
